4 Quick Tips for a Better RV Road Trip

Setting out on the open road? Around here, we think an RV road trip is the best way to do it! And with springtime in the air, there’s no limit to great destinations around the country.

RV Road Trip Tips

But if you’re taking on the road, we’ve got a few tips to help you make the most of your trip.

Use a GPS that’s specific to RVs

You probably think any old GPS will do on your trip, but if you’re driving an RV, a lot of hiccups can come up along the way. An RV-specific GPS will help you prevent these issues, like overhead clearance that’s too low for your vehicle, roads, bridges and tunnels that don’t allow propane tanks or other access points that could pose a problem when you’re driving an RV.

Have a co-pilot on hand

Taking a road trip in an RV – especially if you’re a newbie – can be intimidating. Make sure you’ve got a good friend or family member to sit in front and help you navigate. This person can also help you when you’re backing up, turning or just need a second set of eyes.

Bring along bicycles on your RV road trip

If you’re heading to a new destination, chances are you’ll want to explore. But shuttling around in and parking an RV can be clunky. By bringing along bicycles, you can explore your surroundings with ease – not to mention get some good exercise and some fresh air!

Run your engine every day

Sure, you might reach that wonderful destination and never want to leave. But even if you’re sticking around for a few days, it’s a good idea to turn on your engine for a few minutes every day. This will help recharge the battery to make sure you don’t have a catastrophe down the road (or prevent you from the road, in this case).
